“Before I formed you in the womb I knew you; Before you were born I sanctified you; I ordained you a prophet to the nations.”
Jeremiah 1:5 NKJV
What Is Destiny?
I have always wondered about destiny probably because of my lack of clarity as I sought to find out what it really meant and what destiny was all about. I turned to the Cambridge Dictionary where it was defined as “the things that will happen in the future”.On the other hand the same dictionary also defined destiny as “the force that some people think controls what happens in the future and is outside of human control” Unsure of what position I should take, I turned to the Bible and stumbled upon what God said to Jeremiah in Jeremiah 1:5 “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you; Before you were born I sanctified you; I ordained you a prophet to the nations.”
Identity crisis is one of the challenges that threaten the fulfilment of your prophetic destiny. If you don’t know where you are coming from, how will you know where you are going?
God formed Jeremiah
God knew Jeremiah
God sanctified Jeremiah
God ordained Jeremiah
I have come to the following conclusion as a result:
- Everyone has a destiny from God to fulfil. This refers to the endpoint as well as the journey to get there
- No one is an accident, the circumstances of birth notwithstanding
- Everyone is special.
- Everyone is unique.
What is true for Jeremiah is also true for you. God formed, knows, sanctified and ordained you for a specific purpose. People, situations, circumstances, problems and challenges might have named you, but I say to you today: YOU ARE NOT WHO MEN SAY YOU ARE, YOU ARE WHO GOD SAYS YOU ARE.
Your truest identity and potential comes from God. When God formed sea creatures, He spoke to the waters. When He formed the flying creatures, He spoke to the firmament. When He formed the animals, He spoke to the land. But when He formed man, He spoke to Himself. In Genesis 1:26a, the Bible says: “Then God said, ‘Let us make man in our image and after our likeness…..'”
Rise up and become who God says you are.
To fulfil your destiny, you need to look above by finding out from God who He says you are. You also need to look around to family, friends and colleagues for blind spots and confirmations of key strengths, traits, competencies and unique abilities. Lastly, you need to look within for your deepest passions and love because they constitute the core of your essence. All that’s left after that is for you to:
- Follow your passions
- Pursue your dreams
- Do what you really love in order to manifest your potential and possibilities by living your dream
